25.2.1. Selling Alcoholic Beverages

General Information

The Memorial Union and Wadsworth Hall are the only campus facilities licensed by the State of Michigan to serve alcoholic beverages. To operate a "cash bar" or similar event at any other location on campus, requires a 24-hour liquor license from the State of Michigan. The 24-hour liquor license must be applied for through the office of Risk Management. The University is allowed only four 24-hour licenses per year. All alcohol being sold at the event must be purchased by a State of Michigan SDD Licensee (Memorial Union or Wadsworth Hall).

Procedure

To obtain a 24-hour liquor license, do the following:

  1. Submit a written request to sell alcoholic beverages on campus, to the office of Risk Management, with the following information:

    1. A description of the event.

    2. The date and time of the event.

    3. A valid University index number to be charged for the license and associated fees.

    4. Approval of the department director/chair or immediate supervisor, appropriate vice president/provost, and president.
