PROPOSAL 5-87

COMMITMENT TO DEVELOP A DOCTOR OF PHILOSOPHY DEGREE IN APPLIED PHYSICS

 

BACKGROUND:

The Faculty of the Department of Physics has proposed the development of a Doctor of Philosophy in Applied Physics. This program was endorsed by the Graduate Council in November 1986. The Senate Curricular Policy Committee has reviewed the proposal and endorsed it in January 1987. Senate Proposal 7-78, General Policy for Academic Program Planning, requires Senate action prior to initiating State of Michigan procedures for requesting new degree programs. The Senate Curricular Policy Committee recommends that the following proposal be adopted by the Senate.

 

PROPOSAL:

The Senate of Michigan Technological University endorses the development of a Doctor of Philosophy in Applied Physics degree program. The curriculum developed under this proposal must be processed in accordance with Senate Proposal 10-70, Procedures for Developing Significant Changes in the Academic Program.
