PROPOSAL 12-77
AMENDMENT TO 1977-78 ACADEMIC CALENDAR
BACKGROUND
The 1977-78 academic calendar requires students to attend classes on Friday, December 23. This would mean that many students would be driving home on Christmas Eve. This proposal would eliminate classes on Thursday and Friday of the week before Christmas and designate Tuesday and Wednesday of that week as Thursday and Friday for purposes of scheduling. Information presented with the Instructional Policy Committee report at the Senate meeting of 1/26/77 (see Senate Minutes page 1261) indicated that the 77-78 MTU calendar had an adequate number of instructional days and that the integrity of the academic year would not be hurt by dropping two days of instruction if necessary to make the calendar more workable for the University Community.
The winter term of the 77-78 calendar presently shows:
Monday |
Tuesday |
Wednesday |
Thursday |
Friday |
||||
9 |
11 |

Eliminating the Thursday and Friday gives 9, 11, 11, 9, 9, and declaring Tuesday and Wednesday to be Thursday and Friday, gives 9, 10, 10, 10, 10.
