The Senate of Michigan Technological University

PROPOSAL 1-77

PROMOTION POLICY

The Senate does reaffirm the principle expressed in the present Promotion Policy and Procedures that criteria for promotion should vary from department to department. Such variations are deemed essential to a meaningful and equitable system of promotion by the faculty to which they are to be applied. It is further urged that in the absence of a clear and express prohibition by law, the President of the University proceed with his part in the process of establishing Departmental promotion criteria as called for in the Promotion Policy and Procedures approved by the Board of Control, August 25, 1972.

Adopted by Senate: 15 September 1976
Presidential Approval of individual department's promotion criteria: 3 March 1977 and 12 April 1977 for two-year trials.
