PROPOSAL 3-06

(Voting Units: Academic Departments)

COACHING ENDORSEMENT CERTIFICATION

Physical Education Department

Introduction

This proposal recommends establishing a ‘Coaching Endorsement Certificate’ through the Physical Education Department. Students completing this Certificate will be able to establish their Coaching expertise for profit or for non-profit endeavors.

I.      Title of Certificate

Coaching Endorsement Certificate

II.     Catalog Description

The Coaching Endorsement Certificate program prepares students in basic coaching fundamentals for age-group level sports. Placement as a volunteer or paid coach will be enhanced through acknowledgement of this expertise.

III.    Rationale

Students with a background in sports will be able to continue active involvement in sports of their choice as a coach of club or recreational sports. This program lends balance to their education.
