Proposal for a Change in the Homecoming Recess in the 2005-2006 Academic Calendar

Background:

The Department of Humanities will host a national Woman in Rhetoric conference from October 7-9, 2005.  These dates coincide with Family Weekend.

In support of and to accommodate this conference, the Department of Humanities and Office of Student Life proposes that Family Weekend be moved to September 30-October 1, which is currently Homecoming weekend, and that Homecoming recess be moved from Friday, September 30, 2005 to Friday, September 23, 2005.

The Department of Humanities, Alumni Relations, Athletic Department, Rozsa Center, Student Life and Student Affairs have reviewed and support this change.

According to the Senate Constitution, Section 3.A.1.f.5, the Senate (currently the PAC) has the responsibility and authority to review and establish policy and procedures in matters pertaining to the academic calendar.

Proposal:

Therefore, the Presidential Advisory Committee proposes that the Homecoming recess be moved from Friday, September 30, 2005, to Friday, September 23, 2005 to support and accommodate both Family Weekend and the Woman in Rhetoric conference.
