Reg.: Senate Proposals 3-02 and 4-02

The Curricular Policy Committee has reviewed proposals 3-02 and 4-02, i.e., elimination of the AAS Degree Program in Forest Technology and the Minerals Process Engineering Option degree program. We recommend to reject these proposals and to replace proposal 4-02 with a new proposal.

REG: PROPOSAL 4-02, ELIMINATION OF THE MINERALS PROCESS ENGINEERING OPTION DEGREE PROGRAM

Rather than eliminating the Minerals Process Engineering Option Degree Program, the Curricular Policy Committee suggests the following alternative proposal:

The Senate recommends the relocation of the Mineral Process Engineering Option, existing faculty and graduate programs, to the Department of Chemical Engineering. The program will require only minor modification to the existing undergraduate curriculum. The modified degree program would be titled Particulates/Mineral Processing Engineering. The financial savings of this proposal are congruent with those of the administration. Michigan Technological University offers the fewest number of Bachelor degree programs of all public colleges and universities in the State of Michigan. The Senate therefore feels that it is important to at least maintain the current number of degree programs.
