24.1. Research and Sponsored Programs

Research and Sponsored Programs: An administrative support unit of Michigan Technological University. Its primary mission is to serve, support, and advise the research community in several aspects of proposal submission, and grant and contract administration. Research and Sponsored Programs also acts on behalf of Michigan Tech for grant and contract negotiations.

The Research and Sponsored Programs office provides the following services for all departments and institutes of the University:

1. Assists in locating and disseminating potential funding opportunities and solicitations.



2. Responsible for regulatory compliance for research.



3. Overall administration of sponsored programs.



4. Reviews all proposals and contractual agreements for completeness and conformance to University policy.



5. Advises and assists investigators with:



1. Identifying, selecting, and contacting potential sponsors.



2. Negotiating contractual agreements with all outside funding agencies.



3. Developing and approving budgets for all proposals.



4. Authorizing Accounting Services to establish a project account.



5. Mailing of the authorized University proposal.



6. Processing requests for project modifications, extensions, and renewal.



7. Processing formal proposals and assuring compliance with University and sponsor requirements and regulations.



8. Processing contractual agreement close-out procedures (excludes account reconcilement, final reports, etc.).



9. Negotiating sub-agreements with other collaborators.
