The Senate of Michigan Technological University

PROPOSAL 7-86

EXTENSION OF IMPLEMENTATION PERIOD
TEACHING EFFECTIVENESS

BACKGROUND:

Senate Proposal 10-85, Teaching Effectiveness, was approved for a one-year implementation period in May, 1985 and the Teaching Effectiveness Committee was charged with monitoring and evaluating the first year's experience with the proposal. The Committee has visited all academic units for the purpose of learning faculty opinion about the Teaching Effectiveness Policy and it has begun to identify areas where both policy and procedure should be modified to improve the process.

The Committee will be unable to gather all pertinent information until the end of Spring term, 1986, when all faculty have had the opportunity to participate in the student evaluation process and when all affected individuals have had the opportunity to assess the usefulness and fairness of the policy. It is unlikely that a complete evaluation can be accomplished by the end of the 1985-86 academic year.

PROPOSAL:

The implementation period of Senate Proposal 10-85, Teaching Effectiveness, will be extended through the end of the Fall Term, 1986.
