PROPOSAL 2-83

CONSTITUTIONAL AMENDMENT TO CHANGE RESIDENCY REQUIREMENT

Delete from Article IIIA and Amendment IIIA of the Constitution the words 'newly created', so that it reads:

For election to the Senate, a two-year residency shall be required except for ROTC personnel, the student member, the graduate student member, and departments having less than three faculty members eligible to serve on the Senate.

BACKGROUND:

Article IIIA currently reads:

For election to the Senate, a two-year residency shall be required except for ROTC personnel, the student member, the graduate student member, and newly created departments having less than three faculty members meeting the minimum qualifications.

Thus departments with a high turnover rate and who have no one meeting the residence requirement cannot have a Senate representative. This amendment is proposed to allow all departments to have representation on the Senate.
