PROPOSAL 6-71

TRANSFER CREDIT POLICY

The following is intended to replace the statement on page 14 of the 1971-72 Academic Catalog as well as to serve as a framework within which Departments and Colleges can establish more restrictive Transfer Credit Regulations if they wish.

Students who have satisfactorily completed work at another college and who are in good standing at that college are encouraged to apply for admission.

Application forms may be obtained from the Office of Admissions at Michigan Tech.

It is necessary that the applicant request his former college or colleges to forward a transcript of his record directly to the Office of Admissions.

A student planning to transfer to Michigan Tech may, by a study of the course descriptions included in this catalog, arrive at an approximation of the amount of credit he may expect to transfer.

It is the policy of Michigan Technological University to grant transfer credit in accordance with guidelines established by the academic departments.

Transfer credit is granted in terms of Michigan Tech courses for courses taken (including USAFI and correspondence courses) in which a grade at least one step above the minimum passing grade ("C" grades where applicable, "Pass" grade where applicable) has been obtained, and where the courses presented for transfer are substantially equivalent in content, length, and prerequisites to the courses offered at this University.

Any correspondence course presented for transfer credit must be acceptable for resident credit (in a comparable program) at the college or university offering the course.

Unassigned credit may be granted for courses not offered by this University, and examinations may be required in subjects essential to the curriculum, if such subjects are not satisfactorily covered by the applicant's record or previous credit.
