PROPOSAL 27-78

ACADEMIC COMMUNITY COMMITTEE ELECTION PROCEDURE

The four Academic Faculty members of the Academic Community Committee shall be elected by the Senate in the following manner. A person shall be elected when more than fifty percent of the senators voting cast a vote for that person. If more than the required number of candidates receive votes from a majority of the senators voting, the candidates with the largest number of votes will be elected. The Senate Elections Committee shall count votes.

First Ballot. On the first ballot, a senator can vote for up to four candidates and can cast no more than one vote for any one candidate on the ballot. If all four members are not elected on the first ballot, a First Run-Off Ballot will be prepared.

First Run-Off Ballot. The First Run-Off Ballot will include the names of those candidates who received three or more votes on the first ballot but were not already elected. On the First Run-Off Ballot, a senator can vote for up to the number of Academic Faculty members of the Academic Community Committee yet to be elected and can cast no more than one for any one candidate on the ballot. If all four members are not elected after the results of the First Run-Off Ballot have been counted, one or more Subsequent Run-Off Ballots will be prepared.

Subsequent Run-Off Ballots. Subsequent Run-Off Ballots will include the names of twice as many candidates as there are Academic Faculty members of the academic Community Committee yet to be elected. The candidates placed on a ballot will be the persons who have received the most votes on the previous ballot but have not already been elected.

If there are ties at the cut-off, all candidates so tied will have their names placed on the ballot. A senator can vote for up to the number of Academic Faculty members of the Academic Community Committee yet to be elected and can cast no more than one vote for any one candidate on the ballot.
