Proposal 18-12
(Voting Units:  Academic)

“Proposal to Amend Senate Policy 301.1: Course Add and Drop Policies”

Background:  The Senate’s Instructional Policy Committee has investigated extending the course drop date for the following reasons:

  1. It would afford more time for a student to contemplate the decision to drop.
  2. The student would have received more graded feedback in support of their decision.
  3. It would bring Michigan Tech’s drop date in line with the drop date at other Michigan public universities.

Proposed Change:  The following proposed change is listed in red.

Dropping Courses

During the first three weeks of the semester, courses dropped will not be recorded on the student’s permanent record. Beginning the fourth week through the end of the eighth tenth week of the semester, courses dropped will be indicated by a grade of 'W' on the student's permanent record.
