Proposal 47-11
(Voting Units: Academic)
“Degree Name Change from
B. S. in Health & Physical Education –
Fitness & Sports Management concentration
To
B. S. in Sports and Fitness Management “
Introduction
This proposal is to change the
name of the current degree program “BS in Health and Physical Education -
Fitness and Sports Management concentration”
to BS in Sports and Fitness Management.
Description and Rationale
Currently the BS in Health and
Physical Education is offered with two concentrations: Secondary Education and
Fitness and Sports Management. Strategic planning and the 2009-2010 curriculum
review have resulted in the proposed shelving of the Secondary Education
concentration and a focus on the highly successful B.S. in Exercise Science and
the Fitness and Sports Management concentration of the BS in Health and
Physical Education. Renaming the latter as BS in Sports and Fitness Management
will assist with marketing the degree, and will be viewed favorably by
prospective students and employers.
Currently, we have 24 students seeking
a Fitness and Sports Management concentration. Adopting a Sports and Fitness
Management major should increase this number due to more focused curriculum and
degree marketing.
No new costs are expected.
