Proposal 41-11
(Voting Units: Academic)

“Proposal to Shelve Degree Program: B. S. in Health & Physical Education – Secondary Education concentration”

Name of program: B. S. in Health & Physical Education – Secondary Education concentration.

Final semester program was open for new admits: The secondary education concentration required Michigan Department of Education approval that was not pursued beyond initial discussions and so this program has not been actively marketed, and has not been available for student enrollment.

Plan to complete all enrolled students and any returning students:  There are no students currently enrolled.

Reason for Elimination: The Health and Physical Education   Secondary Education concentration (SEH-2) was one of two degree concentration approved by Michigan Technological University on May 4, 2007.  The Michigan Department of Education did not approve the concentration.  Additional faculty and resources that would have been necessary to attain MDE approval were not forthcoming. The strategic direction of the department will focus on other degree offerings.

Financial Impact (if any) to the department and university: None.
