The University Senate of Michigan Technological University

PROPOSAL 2-05

(Voting Units: Full Senate)

AMENDMENT OF THE SENATE CONSTITUTION

Background: Article II, Paragraph A.6. of the Senate Constitution specifies that:

ARTICLE II - CONSTITUENTS

A. Individuals

6. Members of collective bargaining units recognized by the University shall not be constituents.

This paragraph will eliminate MTU's tenured and tenure-track faculty members as constituents of the University Senate if the AAUP becomes their collective bargaining agent this fall.

To avoid this issue, the Senate constituency will be asked to approve the following changes (in bold print) to Article II, Paragraph A.6 of the Senate Constitution, should the AAUP be named as their collective bargaining agent in fall 2004.

ARTICLE II - CONSTITUENTS

A. Individuals

6. Members of collective bargaining units recognized by the University, other than the AAUP, shall not be constituents.

Proposal defeated by Senate: September 1, 2004
