RE: Change of name of degree concentration in Social Sciences
Currently, the Department of Social Sciences offers a “Pre-Law” concentration under the BS in Social Sciences. It is requested to change the name of this concentration to “Law and Society”.
Rationale:
With growing programmatic activities in the Department of Social Sciences in the area of environmental policy, the title change indicates the interest in legal and policy questions, not simply law school. Moreover, there is concern, that the current name implies there is only one avenue for students interested in law school- a false implication because other majors, of course, can also prepare for law school. Therefore the department requests permission to change the name of the “Pre-Law Concentration” to “Law and Society Concentration”. I fully endorse the proposed name change.
