AMENDMENTS TO SENATE PROPOSAL 12-95, SEARCH PROCEDURES FOR DEANS AND UNIVERSITY ADMINISTRATORS

AMENDMENT
1.1b For university administrators, the search committee will contain fourteen (14) elected (eight for CFO) and four (4) appointed members (three for CFO) of the following university constituencies:

ADDITION
1.1c The University President may request that additional members be added to the committee in order to insure balance and representation of all appropriate interests. In such cases, the President shall explain the reasons for additional appointments and make his appointments in consultation with the officers of the University Senate and Staff Council.

AMENDMENT
2.2c For university administrators, the University Senate will organize and oversee the selection of members who represent the Senate constituency on the Search committee.

The University Senate should strive for balance of gender, race, and disciplinary focus in its elected committee members. To ensure disciplinary balance, the University Senate shall elect its eight (8) (three for CFO) faculty in the following sequence, by written ballot, and by majority vote:

1. Elect two representatives from Engineering (one for CFO)
2. Elect two representatives from Sciences and Arts (one for CFO)
3. Elect one representative outside Engineering and Sciences and Arts
4. Elect one Academic Department Chair
5. Elect two at-large representatives (one for CFO)

ADDITION
2.2d For university administrators, the Staff Council should strive for balance of gender, race, and professional backgrounds as it elects its four (4) representatives (three for CFO). The Staff Council should attempt to elect individuals whose experience and work activities pertain to the areas of the University overseen by the administrator for whom the search is being conducted.

ADDITION
5.1 Searches for university administrators may be conducted using the services of a search firm or consultants at the discretion of the University President and/or the Board of Control. The search committee will direct the efforts of a search firm or consultant.
