SUMMER
INSTRUCTIONAL SESSION
(Proposal
1-01)
Senate Policy 113.1
The summer session will consist of two, consecutive
six-week sessions, and one twelve-week session that is the concatenation of
the six-week sessions. The first session begins the second Monday after Spring
Commencement, takes a recess for Memorial Day, and instruction ends with classes
on Thursday of the sixth week. This provides 28 days for instruction. Friday
of the sixth week is for final exams. The second six-week session begins the
following Monday, takes a recess for July 4, and instruction ends with classes
on Thursday of the sixth week. As with the first session, this provides 28 days
for instruction and Friday of the sixth week is reserved for final exams.
In addition, there should be continued the current practice that allows a variety
of alternative schedules for specialized classes serving students who specifically
need them. Field programs involving extensive travel and intensive training
workshops are good examples.
