Synopsis: The Senate
(1) set the required meeting dates for the next academic year: September 13, 2000 and January 17, 2001.
(2) elected Bob Keen as President, Ted Soldan as Vice President, and Jim Pickens as Secretary by acclamation.
1. CALL TO ORDER
President Seely called University Senate Meeting
334 to order at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday, 10 May
2000, in Room B45 EERC.
2. ROLL CALL OF CONTINUING AND NEWLY-ELECTED SENATORS
Secretary Reed called roll. Absent were At-large Senators Kunz and Adolphs and
representatives from Computer Science, Education,
School of Forestry and Wood Products, Materials
Science and Engineering, Mining Engineering,
Auxiliary Enterprises, and Finance and
Advancement. Liaisons in attendance were Geoff
Roelant (GSC) and Josh Bennett (USG).
3. RECOGNITION OF VISITORS
Visitors included Steve Bowen (Interim Provost),
Tony Rogers (Chemical Engineering), Neil Hutzler
(College of Engineering), Sheryl Sorby (General
Engineering), Bill Shapton (ME-EM), and Marcia
Goodrich (Tech Topics).
4. APPROVAL OF AGENDA
Blanning MOVED and B. Reed seconded the
motion to approve the agenda as presented. The
motion to approve PASSED on voice vote with no
dissent. [Appendix A. NOTE: Only official Senate
and Library archival copies of the minutes will
contain a full complement of appendices.]
5. SETTING OF MEETING DATES
President Seely proposed the required two
meeting dates for academic year 2000-2001:
September 13, 2000, and January 17, 2001.
Pegg MOVED and Long seconded the motion to approve the meeting dates as presented.
The motion PASSED on voice vote with no opposition.
6. ELECTION OF SENATE OFFICERS
President Seely presented a proposed slate of
officers: Bob Keen, President; Ted Soldan, Vice
President; and Jim Pickens, Secretary. There were
no other nominations.
Pennington MOVED and Christianson seconded the motion to accept the slate of nominees by acclamation. The motion PASSED on voice vote with no opposition.
Secretary Reed presented a cherry plaque with a bird's eye maple gavel to President Seely in recognition of his outstanding service as Senate President from 1997 to 2000.
7. ADJOURNMENT
Ftaclas MOVED and Blanning seconded the
motion to adjourn. The meeting adjourned at 5:44
p.m.
