Student Affairs Launches Husky Family Den Platform

Student Affairs has launched the Husky Family Den, a new digital platform designed to strengthen family engagement and create additional pathways for students to connect with campus resources and support.

What It Offers
The Husky Family Den provides families with personalized information about campus services, flexible communication options, contact information for key offices, event calendars and practical guidance on academic policies and student support. Families sign up to receive automated newsletters and targeted emails for specific updates, and have 24/7 access to resources.

How This Connects to Your Work
While designed specifically for families, the platform supports broader campus goals by creating better-informed families who can help guide their students to appropriate resources. When families are engaged with the Husky Family Den, they get coordinated information from one trusted source.

Research shows that family engagement significantly impacts student retention and success. The Husky Family Den equips families to be more effective partners in supporting their students.

Want to Contribute Content?
Faculty and staff who work with families or have information relevant to student success are invited to partner with Student Affairs to contribute content — and many already are. This could include academic department updates, research opportunities or other important or timely information.

For more information about the platform, to refer families to resources, or to explore content partnerships, contact the Dean of Students office at deanofstudents@mtu.edu.

The Husky Family Den is free for all Michigan Tech families. It is accessible at mtu.campusesp.com.

Reid DeVoge Selected for IACP Policy Working Group

Deputy Chief Reid DeVoge of Michigan Tech's Department of Public Safety and Police Services has been selected from an international pool of applicants to join the International Association of Chiefs of Police (IACP) Policy Center’s working group to develop a model policy titled "Responding to Persons Experiencing a Mental Health Crisis."

The IACP Policy Center is nationally recognized as the leader in policy development for law enforcement, often defining the industry standard for police practices. The working group comprises law enforcement individuals and subject matter experts with the goal of providing a comprehensive, holistic approach to policy development.

As part of the working group, DeVoge will collaborate with law enforcement, legal and mental health professionals from various jurisdictions and countries to review and modify a model policy for how police can better respond to people experiencing a mental health crisis. The goal is to create a model that will be adopted by law enforcement agencies across the nation.

DeVoge previously served on the IACP's working group on crowd management and control, and is a Ph.D. candidate in Michigan Tech's Rhetoric, Theory, and Culture graduate program.

Environmental Health and Safety Moving to Meese Center

Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) has exciting news. We are moving to one location to better serve Michigan Tech's campus. On Monday, Aug. 18, EHS will be moving to the Harold Meese Center.

During the move, EHS will only be responding to emergencies on campus. Emails will be responded to on Tuesday, Aug. 19.
