Amy E. Landis has been named associate dean of graduate and online education of the College of Engineering at Michigan Technological University, effective on Monday, Aug. 4.

Landis joins Michigan Tech from the Colorado School of Mines, where she served as professor of civil and environmental engineering and Presidential Faculty Fellow for Diversity, Inclusion and Access. In her role as associate dean, Landis will support graduate student recruitment, retention and success, as well oversee the College’s 40-plus online programs.

“I am thrilled Amy Landis is joining us in this new position focused on preparing our students for successful careers in industry, academia and the public sector,” said Michelle Scherer, dean of the College of Engineering.

The next opportunity for students and staff to become Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) Certified is Aug. 29 from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.

This Mental Health First Aid course teaches you how to identify, understand and respond to signs of mental illnesses and substance use disorders. The training gives you the skills you need to reach out and provide initial help and support to someone who may be developing a mental health or substance use problem or experiencing a crisis.

Two hours of pre-work are required through online modules ahead of the in-person training date. The deadline to sign up is Aug. 20. Cost for participants is $55 and includes all required materials for the course. Sign up today using the Mental Health First Aid registration form.

Today: NSF REU InSPiRES Research Symposium

The National Science Foundation-funded project “REU Site: InSPiRES: Integrated Circuits and Semiconductor Processes to Promote Responsible Engineering and Sustainability” at Michigan Tech is hosting its first research symposium today, July 30, from 3-5 p.m. in GLRC 202.

The project is funded by NSF award 2447809 and partially supported by the Semiconductor Research Corporation (SRC). The research symposium will feature SRC scholars, with presentations covering the work carried out by participants from Michigan Tech and visiting scholars from other campuses. The participants worked under the mentorship of Paul Bergstrom (ECE), Rob Handler (ChE), Christopher Middlebrook (ECE), Daisuke Minakata (CEGE) and Smitha Rao (BioMed).

Join us in celebrating their research experience and learn about their work. This event is free and open to the public.

1. Create your account.
2. Add your children as your affiliates (with their date of birth).
3. Register your child through their affiliate profile (profile options in top right corner), not your own, for any program with an age requirement (this ensures accurate participant info and correct age group placement).
