1. Generations of Discovery Campaign Update |
Michigan Tech's Generations of Discovery Campaign seeks to raise $200 million by 2013.
Tech Today tracks the progress of the initiative with monthly announcements of gifts from individuals and from corporations and foundations.
In the month of November, 858 individuals made gifts totaling $1,954,278:
* In the $1 to $24,999 category--854 donors made gifts totaling $289,278.
* In the $25,000 to $249,999 category--2 donors made gifts totaling $65,000: an outright gift of $40,000 for an endowed scholarship, and a planned gift of $25,000 for the Priorities Discretionary Fund.
* In the $250,000 and above category--2 donors made gifts totaling $1,600,000: a planned gift of $500,000 for an endowed scholarship, and a planned gift of $1,100,000 that is currently undesignated.
The campaign total as of November 30, 2011, was $157,069,868. |

2. Reminder: Register Now for Community Programs |

Michigan Tech Community Programs will offer Dollar Days January 9-15 for the following classes:
* Beginner Line Dance
* Belly Dance for Fitness
* Introduction to Clogging
* Flirty Girl Fitness (Dance Aerobics)
* Just Spin
* Kickboxing
* Ultimate Conditioning
* Yoga for Fitness
* Zumba
Dollar Days are an excellent and inexpensive way to try out some great activities.
Registration for the first spring session of Community Programs will begin Wednesday, Jan. 4.
You may register in person at SDC Ticketing Operations, by calling 487-2073, or online at Community Programs.
If you are taking advantage of any discounts, such as TechFit, SDC Membership, or sibling discounts, please register at Ticketing Operations.

Tech-Northern Basketball Set for Thursday
Michigan Tech basketball will resume GLIAC play on Thursday, Jan. 5, with a doubleheader at Northern Michigan. The Huskies beat their archrivals in both women's and men's earlier this season at home. Each team will go for the sweep over NMU in its only game of the week. The doubleheader tips off at 5:30 p.m.
Hockey Falls Short at GLI
Michigan Tech lost a pair of close contests to nationally-ranked opponents at the 47th annual Great Lakes Invitational Hockey Tournament at Joe Louis Arena in Detroit last week. Tech fell to No. 14 Michigan State 3-1 on Thursday (Dec. 29) after the Spartans scored an empty net goal in the final minute. The Huskies were edged 2-1 by No. 3 Boston College Friday (Dec. 30) after having a goal with 29 seconds left disallowed. Tech will return to action with a home series Jan. 13-14 vs. Alaska Anchorage.
Giesler Goes for 28
Senior Lynn Giesler of the women's basketball team dropped in a career-high 28 points in a 70-52 victory over Lewis last Friday (Dec. 30). The 6-1 center was 11-of-14 from the field and 6-of-7 from the free throw line. She also grabbed seven rebounds. Giesler (12.5 points per game) ranks second on the team in scoring behind junior Sam Hoyt (13.4 ppg). |

The Detroit News and WHIO-TV in Dayton, Ohio, reported Michigan Tech's plans to offer five new degree programs, including a PhD program in biochemistry and molecular biology, master's degree programs in biomedical engineering and medical informatics, and two bachelor of arts degrees in physics--including one for high school teachers.
