1. Reminder: New Procedure for Ordering Campus Nameplates
A new email procedure has been established for ordering Michigan Tech nameplates. All requests for nameplates and holders should be sent to mtusigns@mtu.edu .

Include the following information:

* name and departmental association of person placing the order
* name on the plate, taking into consideration capitalization and punctuation
* account number (cannot be a research index)
* nameplate size (sizes vary up to 8 by 12 inches)
* desired size(s) of nameplate holder(s), including those for door or desk

2. Free Veterans' Law Clinic
The University of Detroit Mercy Law School will hold a free veterans' law clinic from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., Friday, June 25, in Admin 226. Free one-on-one legal assistance and/or representation on federal veteran benefits claims will be available to low-income veterans.

3. Gilkerson Named Academic All-American
For the second straight year, senior Ken Gilkerson was named to the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-American Cross Country and Track and Field Team by the College Sports Information Directors of America. He finished 10th in the 800-meter run in a school record time of 1:51.08 at the 2010 NCAA Division II Outdoor Track and Field Championships. Gilkerson recently graduated with a 3.94 GPA in mechanical engineering.

The Brooklyn Park, Minn., native earned second-team honors this year after earning third-team honors a year ago. He was also the only student-athlete from the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference selected.

Other academic all-Americans for the Huskies this year include Katie Wysocky (women's basketball), Sarah Stream (women's basketball) and Eli Vlaisavljevich (at-large).

To be eligible for the district team, student-athletes must have a 3.2 cumulative GPA and completed two semesters at the institution.

4. Tech Music Instructor to Perform with Students
Instructor Elizabeth Meyer, visual preforming arts, will preform Friday, July 2, after the 1 p.m. Bergonzi String Quartet concert in the community room of the Portage Lake District Library. She will conduct her students from the Copper Country Suzuki Association, which she directs.

The Bergonzi String Quartet of the Pine Mountain Music Festival will perform Peter and the Wolf in a children's concert.

Children are invited to come dressed as characters in the performance: Peter, Grandfather, Bird, Miss Duck, Cat, Forest Rangers (no guns, please) and Wolf. Some simple masks will also be available at the door.

Adults are welcome to attend this concert if they bring at least one child. Admission is free.

6. Notables
Professor Terry S. Reynolds (Social Sciences) received the John M. Townley Award at the 21st Mining History Conference for best article in the MINING HISTORY JOURNAL in 2009. "A Tale of Two Companies: The Cleveland Iron Mining Company and the Iron Cliffs Company, 1850-1892" compared two of Michigan's leading 19th-century iron mining companies.
