2. Independent Auditor Will Verify Dependents' Health Benefits Eligibility |
As health care costs continue to rise, Michigan Tech is trying to do everything possible to make good, cost-effective health benefits available to all eligible employees and their families, President Glenn Mroz said in an email to employees on Friday.
The University has retained an independent auditor, Aon Consulting, to conduct a dependent health insurance eligibility audit, beginning in April.
"Michigan Tech remains committed to providing affordable, comprehensive health insurance coverage to all of its eligible employees and their families," Mroz explained. "To keep that commitment, it is our responsibility to all of you that we account for all those eligible as defined by the University's health plan document."
Mroz described the process that employees with health coverage for family members will be asked to follow to verify their dependents' eligibility.
Covered employees will receive a letter from Aon in April outlining the steps to take to verify dependents' eligibility. A marriage certificate, birth certificates for children and the front page of the most recent federal tax return filed are among the documents that will be used to determine eligibility.
"It is extremely important that employees supply verification documentation completely and accurately, so we can make sure your dependents are covered," said Mroz. "Only those for whom you provide information will be on your health insurance policy."
When you hear from Aon, you will receive a number to call with any questions. |

13. Healthy Tip of the Week |
brought to you by HuskyPAW
Fish is a high-protein, low-fat food that provides a range of health benefits. White-fleshed fish, in particular, are lower in fat than any other source of animal protein, and oily fish are high in omega-3 fatty acids, or the "good" fats. Since the human body can’t make significant amounts of these essential nutrients, fish are an important part of the diet. Also, fish are low in the "bad" fats commonly found in red meat, called omega-6 fatty acids.
