1. Michigan Tech Community Can Now Choose How to Receive Alerts
Michigan Tech’s new Safety First Alert communication service allows the University to send emergency and time-sensitive notifications via voice, email and text message. This service will enhance emergency preparedness and keep the campus community better informed.

Please go to www.mtu.edu/safetyfirstalert and indicate how you would like to be contacted when an emergency or time-sensitive communication is sent. The Safety First Alert service can deliver a recorded message to up to three phone numbers, a message to your Michigan Tech email address and one text message. If you do not want to make use of this service, you must go to www.mtu.edu/safetyfirstalert and "opt out." (You will continue to receive email reminder messages until you take action.)

To maintain your privacy, the information you provide will be used only for Safety First Alert communications. It will not be shared or used for other purposes. You will be asked to update your information or "opt out" annually. If you have questions, please visit FAQs at www.mtu.edu/safetyfirstalert , email safetyfirstalert@mtu.edu or call the Office of Student Records and Registration at 906-487-2319.

Sign up before Sept. 30 to enter a raffle to win two season tickets to the Great Events Series at the Rozsa Center or two season tickets for Huskies Hockey. You decide!

3. Grand Opening of New Playground at Michigan Tech Preschool
MTU Preschool Inc. announces the grand opening and ribbon cutting ceremony for its new playground. Michigan Tech’s Provost Lesley Lovett-Doust will perform the ribbon cutting this Saturday, Aug. 23, at 4 p.m. Michigan Tech preschoolers, alumni and all community members are invited to the celebration.

While the preschool children were still very much enjoying the old playground, newer equipment was needed to maintain its state certification. During this past school year a volunteer parent committee met with BCI Burke Company and Miller and Associates Inc. to design the new play structures. In addition to new equipment, the play area was expanded. Construction costs are being shared between the preschool and Michigan Tech.

The new playground coincides with the preschool’s 50th anniversary.

The preschool is a fully licensed, nonprofit, cooperative preschool serving children ages three to five. It is open to all community members and provides affordable, high-quality education. Non-English speaking children are welcome.

For more information about the school or to register, visit www.mtupreschool.org or call Brita Odegard at 482-5193.

Michigan Tech, which has earned a berth in the GLIAC Tournament in eight of the nine previous seasons, will open the season against the University of Mary on Aug. 28 at the Nebraska Omaha Invitational.
