1. Summer Reading Facilitators Needed |
Faculty and staff are invited to facilitate a student group discussion for Michigan Tech’s Reading as Inquiry project.
The book, "They Poured Fire on Us From the Sky: The True Story of Three Lost Boys from Sudan," by Benson Deng, Alephonsion Deng, Benjamin Ajak with Judy Bernstein, has been chosen. The authors take us on their personal journey over thousands of miles through Sudan’s civil war. As one reviewer tells it, "Their words speak for those who no longer have a voice. Their story will take the reader on a trip not soon forgotten of spirits unwilling to be broken."
Facilitators will lead a small group discussion of approximately 25 first-year students with assistance from two upper-level students during Orientation week.
A facilitator information session will be held Thursday, Aug. 23, in the atrium of the Noblet Forestry Building and the student group discussions are scheduled for Wednesday, Aug. 29, from 9 to 10:30 a.m. As a part of summer reading events, two of the authors will visit campus and present a lecture on Wednesday, Aug. 29, from 6:30 to 8 p.m. at the Rozsa Center.
If you are interested, contact Patti Kirk, at pakirk@mtu.edu or 487-3558, by no later than Friday, June 8. Facilitators will receive a free copy of the book via campus mail. |
