1. Feedback Needed on the Dean of the School of Business and Economics Draft Position Description
The university community is invited to comment on the draft position description for dean of of business and economics. To review the draft position description that will be posted to the search website on Wednesday, May 16, and complete an online comment form, visit http://deansearch.sbe.mtu.edu/ .

An open discussion forum will be held on Thursday, May 17, from noon to 1 p.m. in Memorial Union Alumni Lounge A. Comments will be accepted until noon on Tuesday, May 22.

2. HR and Affirmative Action Offices Closed
The Human Resources and Affirmative Action offices will close at 10 a.m. today, Monday, May 14, to take part in a professional development opportunity and will re-open at 11:30 a.m.

3. Historical Photograph Exhibit at the Michigan Tech Archives
The MTU Archives and Copper Country Historical Collections will exhibit historical photographs from its collections on Thursday, May 17, at 4 p.m. in the Archives reading room on the Garden Level of the J. R. Van Pelt Library. The event is free and open to the public; refreshments will be served. The exhibit will remain in the reading room through July 6 and can be viewed during the department's normal hours of business.

The exhibit, "Images of the Keweenaw: Selections from the Archives' Staff," includes historical photographs from the archives' extensive holdings, including prints of some glass plate negatives which have never been seen before. Each of the archives' staff members were invited to select some of their favorite images from the collections for display.

The event Thursday will include recognition of the Friends of the Van Pelt Library for their ongoing support of library and archival services at Michigan Tech, including the purchase of art frames used in the exhibit. A private donor assisted with the installation of a portrait rail in the room.

A short presentation will also highlight the Keweenaw Digital Archives at Michigan Tech. The new website at http://digarch.lib.mtu.edu allows visitors from around the world to locate and review historical photographs from the archives holdings and invites them to add their own reminiscences and stories about Copper Country people, places and activities.

4. New Funding
Patrick Martin received $120,027 from the Scenic Hudson Land Trust
for "Archaeological and Historical Research at Scenic Hudson's West Point Foundry Preserve, 2007-2008."

5. New Staff
Wendy Yrjana has joined the Local Technical Assistance Program staff as an office assistant 5. She was previously employed in a temporary position as an office assistant 3 for Facilities Operations and, while a student, worked for Occupational Safety and Health, Photo Services and the Motor Pool. Yrjana earned a BS in Business Administration from Michigan Tech in December and lives in Dodgeville. She loves to scrapbook, go on camping trips and visit the beach.
