Correction: VPA Holding Auditions for Two Plays on Sunday and Monday

The Department of Visual and Performing Arts is holding auditions for two plays, "Antigone" and "The Producers," on Sunday, Nov. 30, and and Monday, Dec. 1, from 7 to 10 p.m. each night, on the second floor of the Walker Arts and Humanities Center. Performances for "Antigone" will be Feb. 19-21 and Feb. 26-28, 2015. Performances for "The Producers" will be April 9-11, 2015. Students, faculty and community members are welcome to audition.

To audition for a part in either play, sign up using the Google Form to receive audition material and to ensure priority audition time. After filling out this form, you will receive a contact and information form to fill out, as well as all audition material and what to expect at auditions. You are welcome to audition for one or both plays on the same night.

Youth Pole-Vault Clinic Dec. 6

Youth in grades 8-12 are invited to attend a pole-vault clinic led by professional pole-vaulter Shawn Francis, who is currently ranked number 10 in the US. The clinic will be held Saturday, Dec. 6, from 1 to 6 p.m. in the SDC Multipurpose Room.

Skills to be covered include

  • approach and plant,
  • takeoff,
  • inversion and pike, and
  • drills to improve individual parts of the jump.

Coaches are welcome. The cost to attend is $99/participant and $25/coach. Space is limited, and preregistration is required by Dec. 4.

Student-Athlete Notables

Mielke Named All-Midwest Region First Team
Michigan Tech soccer player Jacqueline Mielke (Green Bay, Wis.) has been named Daktronics All-Midwest Region First Team by the region's sports information directors.

Mielke, a sophomore midfielder, started all 18 games and led the team in goals (nine) and points (21) on the season. She scored three game-winning goals, including a double-overtime tally vs. Walsh on Oct. 5. The All-GLIAC Second Team pick helped the Huskies to an 11-5-2 record and the second NCAA Tournament berth in just the program's fifth year of existence.

Mielke now will be considered for All-America honors from Daktronics. The All-America teams are scheduled to be released on Wednesday, Dec. 3.


Blake Gains GLIAC Player of the Week Honors
Michigan Tech women's basketball player Danielle Blake (Midland) has been named GLIAC North Division Player of the Week after a strong outing vs. No. 10-ranked Concordia-St. Paul last Friday (Nov. 21). The junior forward notched 23 points and nine rebounds in the 65-54 victory over the Golden Bears in the Huskies' home opener.

Blake shot 9-of-12 from the field and added three steals and two blocks to her game-high 23 points. The preseason All-GLIAC First Team pick was a big factor in the Huskies holding Concordia to just 21 second-half points.


Stelzer Named GLIAC North Player of the Week
Michigan Tech men's basketball player Ben Stelzer (Manitowoc, Wis.) has been named GLIAC North Division Player of the Week for his efforts last week. The senior guard scored 28 points in a 60-58 win at Minnesota Duluth in the Huskies' season opener.

Stelzer made 10-of-17 field goals including 7-of-10 3-pointers in the contest. His 18 points in the opening half kept Tech within five at half. The Preseason GLIAC Player of the Year also had three rebounds and a steal in 39 minutes of action.
