Transportation—getting there from here

Yes, it's amazing but true. If you don't have your own car, you can still get around town. And you never have to worry about where to park.

Hancock Public Transit

The City of Hancock operates a motor transit service in the Houghton-Hancock area.

Both route service and call-on-demand service are available. They run from 7:00 am -5:00 pm, Monday through Friday.

Operational boundaries range from the top of Quincy Hill and the Portage Health System to Ripley, throughout Hancock, the Houghton Community Health Center at Tech's Student Development Complex, the Memorial Union Building, Econo Foods, ShopKo, Wal-Mart, Goodwill, the Sharon Centre, the Hellman Centre, and the Copper Country Mall.

The four buses all have handicapped capabilities. You do not need to be a resident of Hancock to use the system.

Houghton Motor Transit

The City of Houghton operates a motor transit service in the Houghton-Hancock area for residents of Houghton.

Look for the red, white, and blue buses which are equipped with wheelchair lifts.

Demand service runs from 7:00 am-5:00 pm, Monday-Friday, with a service area as far north as Portage Health in Hancock and Mont Ripley Ski Hill in Ripley.

Night bus service runs between 5:00-11:00 pm, seven days a week, while Michigan Tech is in session. The night bus service area is limited to Houghton with a return run from Mont Ripley nightly upon request.

Demand and night bus service can be reached by calling 482-6092.

Route service is available from 10:00 am-5:00 pm, Monday-Friday. Service runs hourly, begins at the Memorial Union at the top of the hour, and runs along a route through DHH, Daniel Heights, Memorial Union, City Center, Hellman Center, Arbor Green, Econo Foods, ShopKo, the Bluffs, Festival Foods, Copper Country Mall, Wal-Mart, Goodwill Store, Huron/Sharon Centres, Arbor Green, Heritage Manor, and back to the Memorial Union. Bus Service

Indian Trails provides service throughout Michigan and the US. It stops at the Memorial Union Building and 616 Shelden Avenue (City Center). Call 1-800-292-3831 for ticket information and student discounts, or visit the website at www.indiantrails.com

Student Government Bus Service

Traditionally, Student Government charters a bus to and from downstate Michigan locations for Thanksgiving break. Call 487-2406 well in advance of your planned trip to determine if bus service will be available.
