C. Robert Baillod, professor emeritus and former chair of the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering, has been elected to a three-year term on the Board of Trustees of the American Academy of Environmental Engineers (AAEE). Baillod was one of two board-certified environmental engineers elected to a three-year term by the AAEE membership.

The AAEE consists of 2,600 board-certified environmental engineers and members, is a primary professional society for environmental engineers, and serves as the lead society for accreditation of environmental engineering programs for the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology.

Baillod is the founding editor of the Applied Research and Practice Section of the AAEE Environmental Engineer publication. He also serves as co-leader of the National Environmental Engineering Body of Knowledge Working Group and represents AAEE as an alternate member of the ABET Board of Directors.

Baillod served on the civil and environmental engineering faculty for 39 years, where he worked to develop Michigan Tech’s nationally ranked environmental engineering program. He is a licensed professional engineer, a fellow and life member of the American Society of Civil Engineers, and was a founding member and institutional coordinator of Michigan Tech’s National Center for Clean Industrial and Treatment Technologies. He was elected to the Board of Directors of the Association of Environmental Engineering and Science Professors and served as president in 1992. He is an expert in wastewater treatment and reuse and has published extensively on wastewater treatment processes.

Baillod served as a member of the Portage Lake Water and Sewage Authority Board for more than 30 years and currently chairs the board. He was appointed to the Michigan Transportation Commission by Governor John Engler in 2002. He also serves as an advisory trustee of the Michigan Tech Fund and as a member of the Torch Lake Public Advisory Committee.
