AUGUST 22, 2005 -- Christa Walck has accepted a two-year appointment as dean of Michigan Technological University's School of Business and Economics effective Friday, Aug. 19, Provost David Reed has announced. Walck replaces SBE dean Keith Lantz, who will be on leave from the university for one semester.
Walck, a professor in the School of Business and Economics, has been on the Michigan Tech faculty for 19 years. Her teaching and scholarship have concentrated on the area of organizational behavior.
"The SBE has made a lot of progress in recent years with the highest accreditation [Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business] and the reactivation of the master's program. I look forward to working with Christa as the SBE continues to grow and develop in concert with other academic programs across campus and as we expand opportunities for our students at both the undergraduate and graduate levels," Reed said.
"Students from all disciplines today need to understand how the business world and organizations work from economic, technological, ecological and social perspectives. I look forward to working with faculty, staff and students to continue to build excellent SBE undergraduate, graduate and research programs that will enable our students to thrive in a complex, challenging and diverse world," Walck said.
Walck is a member of the Academy of Management and the editorial boards of Management Learning and the Journal of Organizational Change Management. She has published and presented extensively on organizations and the environment, management and research methods.
Walck received her PhD in History from Harvard University and has attended the Bryn Mawr Summer Institute for Women in Higher Education Administration. After Bryn Mawr, she led the University's North Central Association Accreditation renewal as part of her administrative appointment. She was also a visiting research scientist at the University of Michigan and a member of the Governor of Michigan's Executive Corps as public finance consultant for the Michigan Department of Treasury. In addition, Walck served as the university's conflict of interest coordinator from 2002 to 2004.
