SNOWMAN STAMPS ISSUED MONDAY AT MICHIGAN TECH

The images of four snowmen were captured on new 37-cent first-class commemorative stamps issued Oct. 28 by the U.S. Postal Service at Michigan Tech.

The Holiday Snowmen stamps became available Oct. 28 at the Houghton Post Office and at post offices nationwide starting Oct. 29.

Fourth graders from throughout the Copper Country Intermediate School District were special guests at the ceremony. U.S. Senator Carl Levin, an avid stamp collector, talked about his hobby as he posed for photos with each class.

U.S. Rep. Bart Stupak was also present at the ceremony, along with Dale Tahtinen, MTU's vice president for governmental relations, and Danny Jackson, the U. S. Postal Service's vice president of area operations for the Great Lakes Area. Special guests included snowman photographer Sally Andersen-Bruce and Houghton Postmaster Oscar Niemela.

The snowmen stamps, issued as part of the Holiday series, feature photographs of four whimsical snowmen figurines. The snowmen were created from a variety of materials ranging in size from four to nine inches high and from two to six inches wide.

Current U.S. stamps, as well as a free comprehensive catalog, are available toll free by calling 1 800 STAMP-24. In addition, a selection of stamps and other philatelic items are available in the Postal Store at www.usps.com/shop.
