Career Day: Company Attendance Up 15 Percent For more information on this story contact:
OCTOBER 4, 2004 -- Officials at Michigan Technological University expect the number of companies attending the school's Career Day to increase 15 percent this year.
That's the good news. The bad news is that the university has been scrambling to find enough rooms on campus to meet company demands for interviews.
The annual Career Day, which will take place Tuesday, October 5, has 143 companies pre-registered. Company representatives will fill the university's indoor tennis center and its varsity basketball arena, demonstrating their wares and trying to entice potential employees.
More than 3,000 Michigan Tech students and alumni are expected to attend the event, which includes companies from all over the US--including New York, Florida, Washington, and California--as well as several from the Upper Peninsula.
Many companies will spend an extra day on campus conducting interviews with graduating seniors. Companies also interview for co-op and internship positions.
"This turn-out of almost 150 companies certainly demonstrates a strong interest in Michigan Tech graduates," said Jim Turnquist, director of the university's career center. "We have been knocking on doors all over campus just trying to find rooms where companies can conduct interviews."
