Report HOUGHTON--Professor
David Karnosky (SFRES) and the Aspen FACE Project were featured recently
on an episode of "National Geographic Today." The FACE Project, located in
Rhinelander, Wis., involves 11 institutions and 28 principle investigators.
Its goal is to assess the effects of increased levels of tropospheric
ozone and carbon dioxide levels on aspen forest ecosystems. In a natural setting, researchers
expose plots of trees to elevated levels of carbon dioxide and ozone and
compare how forests respond. The experiment is funded jointly
by the Department of Energy, the National Science Foundation, the National
Council on Air and Stream Improvement (NCASI), the USFS Global Change
Program, Michigan Tech and the USFS North Central Research Station. To view the segment, "Greenhouse
