Michigan Tech Senior Vice President and Provost Kent Wray has announced
that all classes, including those in the forestry complex, will resume
as scheduled Tuesday.
The Michigan State Police Bomb Squad Monday made safe two explosive devices
outside the Michigan Tech Forestry Building and the U.S. Forest Service
lab over the noon hour and allowed residents in a 2,000-foot radius of
both structures to return to their residences. Wray said faculty staff
and students might wish to monitor local radio stations in the morning
to check for any further developments.
"As things now stand, we are planning to conduct all scheduled classes
and are hopeful for a return to normalcy." Wray also reminded the
Tech community that Counseling Services is available if people feel a
need to talk through issues stemming from Mondays events.
Michigan Tech President Curt Tompkins praised the diligence of Michigan
Tech Public Safety in discovering and responding to the potential threat.
" I am also grateful to local police and firemen, the State Police
Bomb Squad, the FBI and ATF for an outstanding effort in responding to
the emergency situation."
Students who did not attend class Monday will be granted excused absences
because of these unusual circumstances. Students with excused absences
are permitted to make up missed graded work and are not penalized for
the absence.
