FIRST LEGO League
MTU Scrimmage

Ten FIRST LEGO League teams from the Western Upper Peninsula schools competed in their first tournament at Hancock Middle School on November 15, 2001. These LEGO League teams are sponsored by the Western UP Center and Michigan Tech's FIRST Robotics team.

Local elementary and middle school students designed and programmed robots made of LEGOs to run through an obstacle course to save scientists studying global warming in the Arctic from man eating polar bears. The 2001 Challenge is called Arctic Impact. This tournament allowed local teams to scrimmage against each other in preparation for a regional LEGO League tournament Saturday, December 1, 2001 at the Superior Dome in Marquette.

The schools participating in the Western U.P. are: Hancock Middle School, Ontonagon Middle School, Lake Linden Middle School, Sleight Elementary, Lake Linden Elementary, Ontonagon Elementary, Houghton Elementary, Hancock Elementary, E.B. Holman, and Baraga Elementary.
