Administrative Reorganization Announced at Michigan Tech

Michigan Tech President Curt Tompkins has announced an administrative reorganization effective September 1.

Vice President for Finance and Administration Bill McGarry will concentrate his duties as vice president for administration, and Controller Daniel Greenlee will assume additional duties as interim chief financial officer and interim treasurer of the Board of Control.

Tompkins noted that McGarry came to Michigan Tech as CFO and Board treasurer in December 1992 but was given additional responsibility for auxiliary services, facilities management, human resources, and residential services in July 1999. "In light of the difficult economic situation facing Michigan Tech, and, indeed, all of higher education, it makes sense for us to place a renewed focus on financial management," Tompkins said.

Tompkins said McGarry would assist Greenlee in the transition, and that he has no plans to begin a search for a permanent CFO and treasurer for at least a year. Both McGarry and Greenlee will serve on the President's Executive Council.

Greenlee came to Michigan Tech as controller in November 1999 after 16 years of service at D&N Bank where he rose to the position of senior vice president and controller. Greenlee held earlier finance and accounting positions at Laydon Enterprises, Niagara Paper, and Arthur Young & Company. He received a bachelor's degree in business administration from Michigan Tech in 1974 and is a Certified Public Accountant.Prior to his service at Michigan Tech, McGarry served as a senior associate of Coopers & Lybrand in Boston. He held positions with Information Associates and SEI Corporation and held administrative posts with Renssalear Polytechnic Institute and Lehigh University. McGarry earned a bachelor's degree in accounting from Kings College in 1965 and a master's degree in business administration at the University of Scranton. He went on to earn a master's degree in higher education from Lehigh and a certificate from the Institute for Higher Education Management at Harvard University.
