The President's Commission for Women at Michigan Tech is sponsoring a "Take Our Daughters to Work" program this Thursday, April 27, for 5th and 6th grade girls who are children or friends of MTU employees.
In addition to spending part of the day "on the job" with their hosts, visiting students will have the opportunity to participate in a variety of sessions and tours presented by current Michigan Tech faculty and staff. A pizza lunch for parents and daughters will also be provided. Terry Smythe, director of the Keweenaw Memorial Rehabilitation and Fitness Center, will be the luncheon speaker.
Program sessions will include "Biomaterials: Building A Better Body" by Debbie Wright of the Center for Biomedical Engineering; "Fun With Those Wacky Electrons" with Ruth Kramer of the Materials Science and Engineering Department; "Building Bridges Civil Style" with Erica Denofre and Amy Syens, Civil and Environmental Engineering Department; "Creative Painting: Fun at Work" by Mary Ann Beckwith, Fine Arts Department; "Communicating Digitally, Colorfully" by Ann Wysocki, Humanities Department; and "Video Conferencing: Corporate to Campus" with Renee Marion, Department of Information Technology.
