HOUGHTON--U.S. NEWS & WORLD REPORT has again named Michigan Tech among the top 50 public universities in America. The weekly news magazine also ranked MTU in the top 100 among all universities in its recent special edition titled AMERICA'S BEST COLLEGES 2000.
Michigan Tech ranked 48th among public universities, 99th among all universities (public and private), and 62nd in a new category--top undergraduate engineering schools offering Ph.Ds.
Michigan Tech also did well in the alumni giving category, placing 63rd among U.S. doctoral granting universities, with 21 percent of its alumni contributing to their alma mater.
"It's gratifying that Michigan Tech continues to be ranked among the finest universities in the nation," said President Curt Tompkins. "Much of the credit goes to our outstanding faculty, students, staff, and alumni, who have been instrumental in raising MTU to national prominence."
