WORKSHOPS FOR LOGGERS SCHEDULED

Two workshops for loggers will be held in May at Michigan Technological University's Ford Forestry Center, located at Alberta on US-41 south of L'Anse. Both sessions are being sponsored by Michigan Tech, Michigan State University Cooperative Extension Service, and Mead Woodlands.

The first workshop, "Bucking Hardwood for Maximum Log Grade and Dollar Recovery," will be held May 4 and will focus on log grading and bucking principles that will help maximize profits. The workshop fee is $55 and includes instructions, hand-out materials, coffee breaks, and lunch.

The second session, "Log Scaling and Grading," is a two-day workshop scheduled for May 5-6. The program will provide a review of the official grading rules for northern hardwood and softwood logs and tie cuts published by the Timber Producers Association of Michigan and Wisconsin. Cost of the workshop is $80 and includes instructions, hand-out materials, two lunches, and coffee breaks.
