JOHNSON NAMED TO NRC BOARD

HOUGHTON--Michigan Tech Presidential Professor John Johnson has been accepted as a member of the National Research Council Committee Board to review U.S. Environmental Protection Agency's Mobile Source Emissions Factor (MOBILE) Model. The Board, which is headquartered in Washington, D.C., is a national organization of environmental studies and toxicology.

The committee will consider the adequacy of the model's input data, assumptions, structure, and results used to characterize mobile source emissions. The committee will also consider ways to improve the reliability of the MOBILE model as a tool for assisting in the development of the emission control strategies to meet air quality goals.

This task is sponsored by the EPA and U.S. Department of Transportation.

Professor Johnson's appointment began February 1 and ends June 30, 1999.
