By Society of Automotive Engineers

HOUGHTON, MI--A Michigan Tech student and two MTU employees were honored recently at a special luncheon at the Cobo Convention Center in Detroit by the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE).

Cornelius N. Opris was awarded the Myers Award for his paper, "A 2-D Computational Model Describing the Heat Transfer, Reaction Kinetics and Regeneration Characteristics of a Ceramic Diesel Particulate Trap." The Award is given annually for the best technical paper presented by a student during the preceding year. Opris graduated in May 1997 from MTU with a doctorate in Mechanical Engineering-Engineering Mechanics.

Jason R. Blough was presented the Arch T. Colwell Merit Award for his paper "The Time Variant Discrete Fourier Transform as an Order Tracking Method." The Award was established to recognize authors of outstanding papers presented at SAE meetings. His paper was one of 20 selected out of 2,426 for the award. Blough is a Senior Research Engineer at Michigan Technological University.

Dr. John W. Sutherland was presented the Ralph R. Teetor Educational Award, recognizing young outstanding engineering educators.
