HOUGHTON-Michigan Tech President Curt Tompkins will visit Beijing October 10-14 at the invitation of the Ministry of Metallurgical Industry of the People's Republic of China.
While in Beijing, Tompkins will present a lecture titled "Michigan's Technological University," which will be hosted by the University of Technology and Science Beijing . His talk will focus on engineering education and research specific to Michigan Tech and to higher education in the United States. He will also discuss recent technological initiatives by private industry and the Michigan State Government.
In 1990 Michigan Tech and the University of Science and Technology Beijing signed a cooperative agreement that calls for information and student exchanges, the exchange of professors and research fellows, and joint research. The purpose of the agreement is to promote friendship between the United States and China and to further cooperation between the two countries in the areas of teaching and research.
Michigan Tech is recognized as "Michigan's Technological University" and has been cited by U.S. News & World Report, Money magazine, and Kiplinger's magazine as one of the top national universities in the United States for quality and cost.
