MICHIGAN TECH LISTED
AMONG TOP 100 BEST COLLEGE BUYS
HOUGHTON--Michigan Tech is listed in The 100 Best College Buys for 1999, a directory to the top colleges and universities in the country whose costs are below the national average, but whose academics are above the national average. The book is one of The Student Guide Series published by John Culler & Sons of Camden, South Carolina.
"Since 1980, college tuition costs have more than doubled the inflation rate, and it has now reached the point where many financial planners believe that the tallest hurdle facing the American family is educating their children," said senior editor Lewis Lindsey, Jr. "Fortunately, there are colleges that have managed to keep costs down and at the same time retain outstanding academics."
"No college can be better than its students," said Lindsey. "The schools that attract the best students are the best colleges. A student should never pick a college without doing serious comparison shopping for cost and quality. If that is done, the schools in this book will win every time."
Earlier this year, Michigan Tech was ranked as one of the country's top national universities by U.S. News & World Report and was also ranked 23rd among the top state universities in America by Kiplinger's Personal Finance Magazine.
