Staff Council
Meeting Minutes
May 15, 2008

I.	Guest Presentation

Jacque Smith, of the Graduate School, presented on the history of
graduate education at Michigan Tech and the current activities of the
Graduate School.

II.	Call to Order

Chair Becky Christianson called the meeting to order at 12:31 pm.

III.	Members Present

Nancy Bykkonen, Becky Christianson, Diane Garrow, Peggy Gorton, Rob
Greenhoe, Allyson Jabusch, Peter Larsen, and JoAnne Stimac. Guest:
Jacque Smith, Graduate School.

IV.	Old Business

a)	Inclement Weather Committee: Becky reported that Ellen has passed
Staff Council's recommendations on to President Glenn Mroz.

b)	Finance Committee Report: Bev Auel was not available today.

c)	Staff Awards: Peggy Gorton reported that the event will be held
June 11th in the Wadsworth Hall dining room. Tickets will be $7 each
which is the same as last year, although Staff Council loses a little
on each ticket sold. Lunch will be the cold deli buffet. Letters are
going out to award recipients this week and information is being posted
on the Staff Council website. Tickets will go on sale about two weeks
in advance. Let Peggy know if you'd be willing to sell tickets. Tech
bucks will be offered again this year.

d)	Blood Drives: Staff Council and the Benefits Office will
co-sponsor two blood drives (May 21 and August 13).  Due to MUB
renovation, the events will be held in the DHH All-Campus Study Lounge.
Appointments will be taken from 10:00 am to 1:45 pm.  Walk-ins will also
be accepted. Becky reported that so far only 9 people have signed up so
we are all encouraged so recruit more donors.

e)	Staff Council/MUB calendar: Arlene and Becky are working on the
final draft. Becky expects to sign off on the final version next week
and the calendar to be delivered in about a month.

V.	New Business

a)	The Staff Council website has been updated with lots of new
information-everyone is encouraged to check it out.

b)	The next Presidential Open Forum will be held Monday, June 16 at
10:00 am in M&M U115. Let Becky know if you can help pass out question
cards or microphones.
