Staff Council Meeting Minutes June 21, 2007 I. Call to Order Chair Becky Christianson called the meeting to order at 12:06 pm. II. Members Present Bev Auel, Rob Bishop, Becky Christianson, Diane Garrow, Kathy Goulette, Allyson Jabusch (new member from Computer Science) and JoAnne Stimac III. Old Business a) Inclement Weather Committee: No update. The committee still needs to meet again. b) Finance Committee Report: Balance is $2,798.11. Making a Difference charges $1210.47, Family Fun Day $5317.92, Calendar $899.50, Misc. Charges $90.50. Charges from the Staff Recognition luncheon have not been received. (Note: Two charges are on this year’s list for calendars because the 2007-08 calendar was produced early.) If charges continue to increase, we may need to request additional funding. c) Staff Recognition: Peggy Gorton reported (via email) that there were 105 award recipients (1635 years of service) and 20 retirees (353 years of service). Tickets sold – 114. Total attendance 187 (including 11 comps). Concern was expressed about the cost of the buffet and the level of subsidy required by Staff Council (cost of the buffet was $10.75 per person). Since the Council has a limited budget, possible other options may have to be explored. d) Dean of Sciences and Arts search committee: Karen Salo reported (via email) that the committee has selected a chair (Mark Gockenbach), job description has been drafted, and places to advertise have been chosen. Ads will be placed in late August and continue through October. The search committee is not meeting over the summer. IV. New Business a) 2006-2007 Staff Council recap (see attached) b) Guests for 2007-2008 (recommendations – see attached) c) Making a Difference Awards: committee needs to meet. – Becky will contact committee members and schedule a meeting d) Planning for 2007-2008: continue with current projects; no additional ideas were presented e) 2007-2008 meetings (see attached). Reminder: there will be no July meeting. V. Adjournment The meeting was adjourned at 12:46 pm. Minutes submitted by: Becky Christianson, Acting Secretary 2006-2007 Staff Council Recap What SC did - New Staff Council awards honored more staff with the Making the Difference awards; had reception instead of luncheon to honor recipients - Family Fun Day - Employee Recognition awards luncheon - Hosted Presidential Open Forums - Members on Provost, Dean of Engineering, Dean of Sciences and Arts, and Ombudsperson search committees - Staff Council/MUB calendar – had a request to have ready early; calendars were sent out to campus in early June - Staff Council t-shirts given to SC members to wear on casual Fridays New initiatives - SC will partner with HR for new employee orientation tours; SC will provide lunch in one of the residence halls (Do we want to give the new employee something else? pen??) Need to continue to work on - Inclement weather policy - SC web site - continue to work with Cynthia to provide material and updates.
