Michigan Tech Space Inventory
Michigan Tech is required to perform a space inventory for the computation of its federal OMB Circular A-21 overhead rate. During this university space inventory, you will survey the room type and functional use of each room as well as to assign account indexes and occupants to the space.
The 2008 survey is a joint effort of Accounting Services, Institutional Analysis, Telcom, Facilities Management, and the University Space committee.
The University Space Committee will utilize this space survey to maximize space utilization in providing quality service to our students, faculty, and staff.
Purpose
Regulatory requirement: A space survey is an integral part of the process of assigning institutional space into OMB Circular A-21 functional categories based on space use.
Because this is an integral part of a federal study, before you begin to update your department space inventory, please study the instructions and definitions very carefully.
Budgeting and planning: We have added Room Condition data fields to this year’s survey. A proper room assignment will help in the University’s budgeting and planning process.
Timeline
Our goal is to complete the FY2008 space inventory by June 30, 2008 and then switch from the periodic inventory method to a perpetual space inventory model. This will be a significant change to our current space inventory practice.
