Limit the length of the application to no more than four (4) pages, plus a two-page curriculum vita.

Synopsis (one paragraph). Summary of proposed activities with objectives highlighted. Please note that the Faculty Scholarship Grant Committee, which evaluates the applications, is composed of a diverse set of faculty. Applications should be written in lay terms.

Project Narrative (two-page limit). Describe in some detail the specific activities to be performed. Indicate how the proposed project fits into your previous and future work. If you are beginning work in a new area, explain why your research/scholarly/creative interests have taken you in this direction.

Budget Summary.
List each major category of expenditures and estimated costs.

  • Supplies and services need to be outlined in enough detail for the committee to determine how you arrived at your estimate.

  • Travel detail: all travel costs over $1,500 must include hard copy back-up documentation for expenditures outlined, i.e. estimated airline travel costs (from Northwest Airlines website), Michigan Tech per diem calculated, conference information and fee documentation. In other words, each trip should have a travel expense estimate along with supporting documentation. The committee wants to easily see where you are traveling to, benefits of the travel, and how you arrived at your estimates.

Provide the review committee with a justification for the expenditures.

Unallowable Costs:

  • Per diem for meals
  • Graduate student support
  • Equipment purchases

In rare instances when salary is justifiable, include fringe benefits at the current approved rate.

Curriculum Vita (two-page limit). Your CV will be reviewed by the committee, please be sure you attach your up-to-date CV.

Failure to follow any of the guidelines above will result in disqualification for consideration.
