Submission Program Guidelines
In
Limited Submission Programs, the sponsor restricts the number of
applications or proposals a campus can submit to the agency. The
guidelines for these programs require institutions to screen pre-proposals
to determine which applications will be submitted for competitions.
The internal deadline for submission of internal proposals will be approximately
four to six weeks prior to the agency due date. PLEASE NOTE: If there is insufficient time for an internal competition to take place, complete proposals will be processed on a "first come first serve" basis..
Procedures
for Limited Submission Programs:
1.
Announcing the funding opportunity to the campus community
- Current opportunities: The Vice
President for Research will maintain a web page posting internal
submission procedures and deadlines, with links to other university
postings of limited submission opportunities. This is in addition
to “Funding Alerts” that individual faculty can receive
from Community of Science based on their search criteria.
- Last minute opportunities: If individual
faculty or staff become aware of limited submission opportunities
not posted through the above sources, they must immediately notify the Vice President for Research
office with information to post on this web site. Send information via email to cagherna@mtu.edu .
- If there is enough time, at least ten (10) business days prior to the deadline, an announcement will be sent out to the deans and chairs and normal instructions will apply.
- If there is less than ten (10) business days prior to the deadline, all proposals received in the Vice President for Research office will be submitted on a "first come first serve" basis. If any proposals come in after we have reached our maximum number of submissions, those proposals will not be able to be submitted by our office.
2.
Internal Proposals should include:
3.
Determining the Michigan Tech Candidates
- If there
are fewer internal applicants by the internal submission date
than the number of proposals that MTU can submit, those that submit
their internal applications shall automatically be assigned as
the MTU candidates, and additional applicants can be accepted
on a "first come first serve" basis through application to the
Office of the Vice President for Research.
- If the
number of internal applicants notifying the Office of the Vice
President for Research by the internal submission deadline equals
the number of proposals that MTU can submit, then they will automatically
be assigned as the MTU candidates and no further applicants will
be considered.
- If there
are more internal applicants than the number of proposals that
can be sent from MTU, the Vice President for Research will distribute
the internal proposals to the Deans of the Graduate School, College
of Engineering, College of Science and Arts, School of Business
and Economics, and School of Forest Resources and Environmental
Science, and convene a meeting of these Deans (or their designees)
to select the MTU candidates.
4.
After the Selection
- The Vice
President for Research will notify the selected MTU candidates
and request confirmation that they will submit proposals to the
program in question.
- After receiving
confirmation from the selected candidates, the Vice President
for Research shall notify the other applicants of the decision.
If one or more of the selected candidates fails to confirm their
intent in a timely fashion, the Vice President for Research, in
consultation with the Deans, shall identify an additional applicant
from those not initially selected if there are openings.
- The Vice
President for Research shall notify the deans and relevant chair(s)
if a selected candidate fails to submit a proposal to the program
in question.
